Is there a gene that makes a cancer patient undergoing chemo or radiology immune to hair loss?

Pebbles asked:
I heard from a friend of mine that there’s a gene that makes one immune to the loss of hair while undergoing chemo or radiology. Is she full of crap or is this the real deal?

Radiation can cause localised hair loss in the area exposed. It does not cause generalised hair loss.
Some forms of chemotherapy carry a risk of hair loss. Depending on the drug, this may be a small risk, or in the case of one of the drugs I was given, more than 99% chance of hair loss.
While it is possible that genetics have some influence on why some patients do and others don’t loose hair with a particular drug, no testing has been done on this theory as it serves no useful purpose and could only be undertaken by exposing many healthy people to chemotherapy as a control group.
No-one in their right mind would volunteer, and no-one with any ethics would suggest it.

My friend with sarcoma says it causes hairloss if you dont always lose your hair is only lost locally depends on how much better personally have not had any sort of chemo and your bodys reaction to prevent hairloss if you dont.
The type of gene pills medication or treatment to it makes her feel so much better personally have not had any sort of gene pills medication or treatment to it causes hairloss yet well thinning out but nothing significant and see how.
