Are there any remedies for hair loss due to stress?

A female friend of mine had a couple of traumatic experiences a few years ago. She experienced a small patch of hair loss after the first incident. It eventually grew back. Months later after another near nervous breakdown, the spot came back on the other side of her head. Since then her hair has become very brittle and breaks easy. Not sure what she’s tried. Just want to check options for myself to help her overcome this.
