seymor weaver asked:

We lose hair everyday. That’s normal. A hundred strands or so is not something to be alarmed about. It’s just part of the cyclical process that our hair follicles experience. But what if your hair loss extends beyond the normal number of hair strands lost everyday?

Problems of hair loss is not limited to a specific age group, sex, race, hair type, or hair color. May you be young or old, a man or woman, have straight hair or curly hair, red hair, blond hair, natural black hair, afro hairstyles, African-American natural hairstyles, curly hair, or whatever - you still run the risk of experiencing hair loss problems.

There are a number of causes for men hair loss and women hair loss. However, no matter what reason it might be, one thing is certain. You are having hair loss problems, you are pretty much concerned about it and you are desperate for an effective hair loss treatment in Katy.

Jean is just your average late 20’s woman. No, not quite. Though she may look like she is on her way to success, she is troubled by something. Day after day, on her pillows, in the shower, in her brush, she sees them all - little by little she is getting bald. She has tried all the Katy hair loss remedies she has known and been told and nothing seems to be working for her. She is fed up with empty promises. She wants to have a Katy hair loss treatment that works, and she wants it now before she loses every bit of her hair and become bald and a laughing stock. She could not imagine having the credibility she built for years overshadowed by a bald head.

Good thing about Jean’s case is that Katy hair loss treatment is already available. Depending on the type of hair she has and the cause of her hair loss, may it be because of malnutrition, medical conditions, medications, hair treatments, disruption of hair growth cycle, Androgenetic alopecia, Trichotillomania or Alopecia areata, there is a specific approach for the hair treatment that she should get.

For most people, hair loss is brought upon by improper lifestyle and diet. Usually, if hair loss is brought upon by malnutrition, a change into a much healthier diet is usually recommended, especially for women who do purging, they will be strongly encouraged to stop the practice if they want to stop their hair loss. However, there are other cure for hair loss, and these are as follows.

minoxidil antiandrogens - Finasteride, Dutasteride, Ketoconazole, Black Cohosh, and Green tea caffeine copper peptides spin labels hair transplantation hair multiplication scalp massage low-level laser therapy unsaturated fatty acids Hedgehog agonists

There are only two FDA-approved male hair loss solutions among the many hair loss treatments mentioned above, the Minoxidil and Finasteride.

However, heed this warning. DO NOT ever try out these hair loss remedies on your own. It is recommended that do not ever try any of these hair loss treatment on your own. Always seek for professional advice.

Brennan Howe asked:

The best start to preventing hair loss is understanding the basics of hair, what it is, how it grows and what causes it to start falling out. With this information you will find that it is possible to prevent your hair loss.

Androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as male pattern baldness, is the condition that over 95% of people with hair loss have, and it is caused by increased levels of DHT. This type of hair loss is commonmly caused by a genetic sensitivity to DHT and 5-alpha-reductase. The enzyme 5-alpha-reductase is responsible for converting testosterone to DHT, the substance identified as the end-cause for hair loss.

It has also been found that the more recessive the hair gene, the more likely it is for one to suffer from hair loss. Blond-haired people possess a larger propensity for hair loss than darker-haired individuals, and thus Caucasian persons have a greater propensity for hair loss than non-Caucasian individuals.

The scientific developments of the past several decades are bringing hope to many trying to prevent this type of hair loss. Treatments like Rogaine and Propecia have been shown to be effective at reducing DHT levels in people. Surgical restoration techniques have also improved greatly have also helped a number of people who would have previously had to settle for gradual hair loss or poor covering products.

Studying the role of DHT in preventing hair loss has even led to the discovery of several herbal solutions for hair loss prevention. Products like Provillus and Procerin use a blend of herbs such as saw palmetto, nettles, rosemary and horsetail as the basis for effective hair loss products. Even more promising is the fact that the hair loss caused by androgenetic alopecia is found to occur primarily in Western civilizations, meaning that there are likely dietary practices that contribute to hair loss. This lends to the possibility that improving ones diet could help in preventing hair loss.

Hair is a living protein, and as with any part of our bodies we must be sure to maintain proper health to optimize the chances of continuing to grow a healthy head of hair. Proper nutrition is vital to preventing hair loss, since the hair is a living and growing part of the body’s system. A healthy balanced diet, exercise, vitamins and herbal hair loss supplements will all aid in your hair loss prevention efforts.

Remember, the restoration of hair growth is not an overnight process. The process takes time regardless of the method chosen. Be patient, even the most effective hair loss products will take at least 3 months to show signs of improvement. Don’t give up, many people have had great success at preventing hair loss.

Keep in mind that the body is a system, and it is the abuse of this system by improper nutrition and environmental causes that lead to most common hair loss. Through returning the body back to its natural state, hair loss can be prevented and restored.

Irina Thorton asked:

There has been an ongoing debate on whether or not vitamins can help prevent or stop hair loss in women. What is the real score here? Is preventing hair loss as simple as eating a good diet and taking vitamins for hair loss in women?

Androgenetic Alopecia

Majority of both men and women who lose their hair have andorgenetic alopecia. In this condition, the hormone DHT binds itself to the hair follicles and damages them. The condition is especially marked in those who are genetically predisposed to hair loss. Since genes and hormones are the main factors in this form of hair loss, some individuals have stopped seeing vitamins as a factor that can prevent hair loss.

Contributing Factors

If your condition is caused by androgenetic alopecia, vitamins for hair loss in women don’t really have much of an effect. They are however still necessary to address the contributory factors that can make hair loss worse in women. It is generally known that aside from genes and hormones, female hair loss can be made worse by stress, trauma, emotional distress and serious illness. The only way to fight these contributory factors is through vitamins for hair loss in women.

What Vitamins Can Do

How can vitamins help? Vitamins for hair loss in women are perfect for keeping your present hair healthy, strong and free from damage and dryness. Vitamins also keep the entire scalp and the follicles properly nourished to encourage new hair growth. Although vitamins for hair loss in women can be found in nutritious foods, it still makes a lot of sense to get some extra boost from vitamin supplements. These can help supply whatever we lack from food intake.

Vitamins for Hair Loss in Women

There are numerous vitamins for hair loss in women. Here are some of the most important ones.

- PABA or Para-Aminobenzoic Acid - This is a B-vitamin that has a crucial role in the metabolism of protein. It is also a known antioxidant that can help sweep the body clean of harmful free radicals. Its role in hair health seems to focus more on the restoration or maintenance of hair color. Along with some other vitamins for hair loss in women, this one helps prevent your hair from graying prematurely. PABA can be found in whole grain foods and liver.

- Biotin- This is another member of the B-complex group of vitamins. It plays a role in fat, protein and carbohydrates metabolism. Just like PABA, it is also crucial for the maintenance of hair color. Moreover, it also promotes hair growth, strength and thickness. Various studies have shown that a deficiency in biotin can result in some hair loss. Vitamins for hair loss in women like biotin can be found in milk, whole grain, egg yolk and liver. This vitamin however can be destroyed by over heating and the process of canning so it is best to always eat fresh or take supplementation.

- B6 Vitamin - This powerhouse vitamin can work wonders on the immune, circulatory and nervous systems. Like other vitamins for hair loss in women belonging to the B-complex family, this one also helps maintain hair color and strength. This vitamin can be found in bananas, liver and avocados.

Hair loss?

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009
giantsfan asked:

I have a pattern of hair loss on my body. It’s in the same places on my arms and legs. I have no family history of this, nor am I stressed. I do have rising blood pressure with something similar to psoriasis. The blood pressure would trigger the itching but it’s mostly my head and chest. I believe it gets worse every few years as well as the hair loss. Could this be linked? Before I see a doctor, can I get any ideas on what this could be?

Helen Hecker asked:

Statistics show that most men have a 50% chance of experiencing hereditary hair loss by their 50th birthday. The severity and nature of baldness can vary greatly; it ranges from male and female pattern alopecia, alopecia areata, which involves the loss of some of the hair from the head, and alopecia totalis, which involves the loss of all head hair, to the most extreme form, alopecia universalis, which involves the loss of all hair from the head and the body. The term bald derives from the English word balde, which means white or pale, or the Celtic word - ball, which means a white patch or blaze, such as on a horse’s head.

Recognizing and treating an infection may help stop hair loss. If the thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, hair may fall out; treating thyroid disease will help remedy this. Correcting a hormone imbalance may prevent further hair loss.

About 3 or 4 months after an illness or a major surgery, you can suddenly temporarily lose a large amount of hair; this hair loss is related to the stress of the illness. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance; correcting the hormone imbalance may stop the hair loss. Since hair loss may be an early sign of a disease, it’s important to find the cause so that it can be treated properly and fast.

Many women notice hair loss about three months after they’ve had a baby; during pregnancy, high levels of certain hormones cause the body to keep hair that would normally fall out and when the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels that hair falls out and the normal cycle of growth and loss starts up again. Some drugs or medications can cause hair loss, which improves when you stop taking the medicine; medications that can cause hair loss include blood thinners, medicines used for gout, and chemotherapy drugs used for cancer, too much vitamin A supplementation, birth control pills and antidepressants. In the past it was believed that baldness was inherited from a person’s maternal grandfather; while there’s some basis for this belief, both parents contribute to their offspring’s likelihood of hair loss.

Products for hair loss include: shampoos, shampoos and conditioners, conditioners, lotions, creams, concealers, thinning hair shampoos, laser combs, laser brushes, the Lasertron Hair Growth Brush, herbal based products, chemical based pills or tablets, Nizoral shampoo, Neutrogena T-Gel, and many others. Regular aerobic exercise can help keep androgen levels naturally lower while maintaining overall health, lowering stress and increasing SHBG. Surgery is another method of reversing hair loss and baldness, although it may be considered an extreme measure.

There are hundreds of hair loss products used as hair loss remedies and treatments. Topical application of Ketoconazole, which is both an anti-fungal and a potent 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, is often used as a supplement to other approaches. Propecia (Finasteride) and Minoxidil (Rogaine in the U.S and elsewhere as Regaine) are drugs that have reported having shown some success in partially reversing loss but consider the side effects.

Very little testing has been done on the long-term effects of Minoxidil on women. While drastic, broad spectrum anti-androgens such as Flutamide are sometimes used topically; Flutamide is potent enough to have a feminizing effect in men, including growth of the breasts. Propecia is available with a prescription; comes in pill form, is only for men and may take up to six months before you can tell if it is working.

Vodka and cayenne remedy for loss - mix one jigger of vodka with a 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (test on skin first for sensitivity) and rub it on the scalp; blood rushes to the hair follicles stimulated by the vodka and cayenne pepper - be careful if you try it. Circulation to the scalp is important. Saw Palmetto is an herbal DHT inhibitor often claimed to be cheaper and have fewer side effects than finasteride and dutasteride; unlike other 5alpha-reductase inhibitors, saw palmetto induces its effects without interfering with the cellular capacity to secrete PSA (protein specific antigen).

Olive oil and rosemary remedy for hair loss - use equal amounts of olive oil and oil of rosemary; combine them in a bottle, shake vigorously, massage into the scalp, put on a cap and shampoo in the morning. Try lying on a slant board with head down for 15 minutes a day, but clear it with your doctor first. Try using double-strength herbal sage tea as a hair rinse or apply to scalp every day as a tonic.

Beta Sitosterol, which is a constituent in many seed oils, can help to treat BHP (benign prostatic hypertrophy) by lowering cholesterol; but consuming large amounts to get at small quantities of beta sitosterol is likely to exacerbate male pattern baldness. Try scalp massage every day. Garlic oil remedy for hair loss - at bedtime, puncture a couple of garlic pearles, squirt the oil on the scalp, massage, cover with a cap, shampoo and rinse in the morning.

Apple cider vinegar used as a hair rinse may stimulate hair growth. Garlic for hair loss remedy - an hour before bedtime, slice open a clove of garlic and rub it on the hair loss area, wait for an hour then massage the scalp with olive oil, put on a cap, go to bed, shampoo your hair in the morning, repeat for a few weeks, and hopefully hair will stop falling out and regrowth will be showing. Resveratrol, from grape skins, is a lipase inhibitor and by decreasing the body’s ability to absorb fat through the intestine walls, it reduces the total fat and calorie content of a person’s diet.

Keep in mind that hair loss should be continually treated, preferably natural however, even after it stops. Treatment for alopecia can be slow and sometimes not successful; the more hair that’s lost, the more you may have to work at it to get it back and in some cases may not be able to; but try as many natural non-invasive treatments and remedies as possible. If adequate treatment is not available for your type of hair loss, you may want to consider trying different types of hairstyles or wigs, hairpieces, hair weaves or artificial hair replacement.

Hair loss has affected millions of men and women. Though excessive hair loss results in baldness, which further lowers the self esteem, confidence as well as dignity of an individual, this experience may be traumatic for a woman. To look appealing and beautiful is every woman’s desire & this desire could be marred due to excessive hair loss. Hair loss in women not only mars her personality but at the same time draws a lot of attention thereby causing a lot of humiliation. It is quite normal if the hair loss is around fifty to hundred strands a day but beyond this women should be extra cautious.

Excessive hair loss in women may be attributed to many underlying health related issues .This should be taken care of and a doctor should be immediately referred to. Patterned hair loss in females is different in that the hair loss is not localized, instead thinning of hair occurs throughout the scalp thereby making the scalp visible whereas in men hair loss is usually localized at the top of the head. Hair loss in women could be attributed to many reasons. Women usually resort to improper hair treatment as well as styling such as chemical treatment, hair coloring, perming and wearing hair styles like pigtails, cornrow etc that pull the hair tightly resulting in hair loss. Moreover women are more susceptible to hormonal imbalance making them more prone to hair loss.

Post pregnancy or after a long term illness or surgery, females experience imbalance in the estrogen level. Consumption of antidepressant drugs or birth control pills which contain anticoagulant (i.e. blood thinners) may also lead to hair loss in women. Over or under secretion of thyroxine from thyroid gland is yet another cause for hair loss in women. Women could resort to certain home remedies such as applying coconut milk on the scalp, preparing & using home made shampoos by boiling hundred gm each of reetha, amla, shikakai in two litres of water till it reduces to half, for a month etc to prevent hair loss. Since hair is made up of a protein called keratin, consuming food rich in protein might help. Hair loss in women could be cured by rubbing minoxidil to their scalp twice daily to enhance hair growth & prevent hair loss.

With the dramatic improvement in technologies like hair implantation, laser therapy etc hair loss would no longer be a cause of nightmare for women. You could now look forward to these techniques which not just assure cent percent results but could also be availed at affordable prices.

Robert M. Bernstein, MD, F.A.A.D. asked:

Hair loss affects millions of men and women, both young and old. It can decrease self-esteem and confidence, and limit the ability to enjoy life to the fullest. Persons balding at a young age may feel deprived of an essential element of their youth. This feeling is created and affirmed by cultures all over the world. Images on television, in the movies and on print ads, constantly reinforce the association between a youthful appearance, sexuality, and a full head of hair.

Balding affects people in different ways, but certain emotional reactions seem to be shared by many.

The most common concern that people have when they begin to lose their hair is that they will be less attractive to the opposite sex. The interesting thing is that this is often only the view of the person that is balding and not that person?s partner. The spouse or friend of those experiencing hair loss commonly state that the only thing that bothers them is that it makes their partner depressed. The balding does not bother them per se.

It is interesting that women sometimes express that they want their spouses to look good for the wedding pictures, but once married, they become far less concerned about their spouse?s hair. In fact, when a married man suddenly becomes interested in having a hair transplant, we have seen the spouse become suspicious of extra-marital interests and even object to the husband having the procedure.

Hair loss is a universal marker for aging, with one?s mane gradually diminishing over time. Your body slowly changes as well, with more sagging and wrinkles and ones muscle mass decreasing. However, hair loss hair can also occur suddenly at a young age, making you appear much older than you actually are.

A practical concern with looking older is that the person may not be as competitive in the work force. Unfortunately, studies have shown that this is a real phenomenon. When employers are screening job applicants, all other things being equal, those with hair are viewed more favorably than those who are bald.

People experiencing hair loss complain that the way they look does not fit with their own image of themselves. This occurs when someone begins to lose hair early i.e., in their late teens or twenties, but it is as much a problem when someone has had a full-head of hair for years (and is used to receiving compliments about their hair) and then their hair thins unexpectedly in middle age.

Another aspect of balding is that people feel a loss of control. Hair is one of the few body parts that you can actually manipulate yourself. You can grow hair long, cut if off, you can wave it, dye it, or pull it back in a pony-tail. It serves as a form of self-expression. As people start to lose this form of self-expression, they can become depressed and withdrawn. But not everyone responds this way. People react very differently to their hair loss, with some considering it only a minor nuisance and others finding it so debilitating that they won?t be seen in public without their head covered.

One of the things that makes going bald difficult is that, for some reason, people feel that commenting or joking about hair loss is “fair game” when they wouldn?t dare mention that someone had bad skin, or had a limp. I often point out to patients, that just because people chose to comment about thinning hair, doesn?t mean they are judging that person or really care much about it. It just seems to be a socially acceptable thing to mention.

Women seem to believe that female hair loss is less acceptable than hair loss in men. While this may be true, the vast majority of women have hair loss in a pattern that can be easily camouflaged. Women are often reassured when they realize that about 40% of women experience hair loss over their lifetime, but it is to such a small degree that it is rarely recognized by others.

The important things to remember are that hair loss is very common, it is much more acceptable with age, and it is generally less important to other people than the person experiencing hair loss thinks. That said it is not unreasonable to be upset about going bald. Fortunately, for those who are bothered by their hair loss, there are now excellent medications to prevent hair loss and excellent surgical treatments to restore hair once it is gone.

In seeking treatment for their hair loss, younger men often consider a surgical option first. They shun the idea of having to take a medication “for life” and think that surgery will be a permanent solution to their problem; often not realizing that having surgery at a young age may create far more problems than it will correct. Unfortunately, these young people, in a panic, may fall prey to unscrupulous physicians whose practices are built on “selling” hair transplants to those in an emotionally fragile state.

It is the responsibility of the physician to make sure that an emotionally distraught patient is making informed choices and understands the long-term implications of any treatment option - especially surgery. In the younger patient, it is often prudent to slow down the decision making process. This can be accomplished with multiple consultations, stressing the importance of drug therapy and, when appropriate, getting parents or other significant persons involved. The doctor should allow the patient to reflect on the situation and the decisions involved - and should never rush to operate.

Older patients are often more deliberate about the decision to undergo hair transplant surgery. Many have considered the procedure for some time, and understand the challenges of making emotionally charged decisions, getting accurate information and finding a doctor they trust. They often research their options more thoroughly. Outsides factors may finally tip the balance in favor of having surgical hair restoration. These factors may include a search for a new job, a divorce, or simply the availability of financial resources. Alternatively, it may reflect the indulgence of a confident, successful person doing something extra for himself.

When hair loss becomes an obsession, it is rare that either medical treatments or surgery will satisfy the patient?s need for perfection. In situations where the emotional reaction far exceeds the degree of hair loss or where the expectations of treatment is more than can be achieved with existing technology, psychological counseling is in order.

Although each individuals motives may vary, it is not unreasonable for people at any age to want to improve their appearance, and it is hard to deny the great impact that hair plays in this regard. However, a decision to proceed with hair restoration should be made with a clear head, a specific objective and with as much factual information as possible.
